Life at Al Akhawayn University is the only residential university in Morocco and provides a secure living environment. The university is built on 40 hectares of land in a cedar forest. The entire campus is fenced, with access controlled by campus security. The library is the largest open stack collection in Morocco and has been supplemented with a variety of online subscriptions. There are three restaurants, a coffee shop, and store all centrally located on campus. A variety of student activities and clubs provides avenues for relaxation and personal development. Al Akhawayn University provides on campus housing with easy access to classrooms, study groups, library, and campus activities. With a mosque in its center and a church in its off-campus residences, the University preserves the right of its diverse community members to practice their faith in an environment of respect, peace and understanding.
Imam Dr. Sliman Khanjari manages the mosque and leads daily prayers. The Imam also holds Friday and gives a weekly lecture at the mosque and other rituals on special religious occasions, notably during the sacred month of Ramadan. Additionally, he offers advice on matters of religious nature.

The ski resort of Michlifen, 19km south of the town, and the slopes of Mount Hebri have great slopes to hurtle down once the chill sets in.
